Breast Implant Revision is also known as breast implant replacement. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure to revise or correct the aesthetic appearance of the breast resulting from the following: ruptured implants, unsatisfactory result of a breast augmentation, infection, implants that have rippled, rubbed or shifted, wrong implant size, hardening of implants, leakage of silicone implant, and deflation of saline implants.
There are different procedures for different reasons in having a breast implant revision.
Rippling of Implant – The surgeon uses the same incision to reposition the implants in case the saline implants are still palpable and visible. The surgeon may also opt to change the kind of implant or place a new implant into a new breast pocket.
Changing of Implant Size – Still, the surgeon will use the same incision to remove and do the replacement of the implant. If one wants a bigger implant, the surgeon will make the pocket bigger or the space in the breast.
Hardening of the implant and capsule (capsular contracture) – Using the same incision, the surgeon will first remove the original implant and places a new one.
Implant displacement / malposition – To correct the position of the breast, the surgeon will alter the scar tissue from the capsule around the implant and recreate the pocket that will fit the right position using suturing procedures. The tissues will be utilized to reinforce the new implant pocket. The use of acellular dermal matrix product for additional support may also be used.
