Have you been on a diet so long you’re beginning to think the diet is causing your weight increase or making it stagnate at a level you don’t want to live with? A research suggests that 12% of population on a diet retain their initial weight while 40% of them gained weight. Frustrating to note but on the brighter side, here is something to smile about: liposuction options are here to make your life easier.
Liposuction is simply the extraction of fat tissues from the body. The most common areas of fat removal include the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs and face.
Great news, right? But don’t rush into it blindly. You need to consider a lot of factors before you sign up to go through with the procedure.
1. What happens before the procedure?
As with any other surgical procedure, you will need to go through a physical examination to determine that you’re fit enough to undergo that particular procedure. Make sure to discuss any conditions that you might have with your doctor. They can determine if it will affect your liposuction procedure.
Don’t let a clinic’s marketing affect your decisions. Spend time researching which procedure is right for you, other patient results, and the reputation of the clinic/doctor. Are they happy to answer all your questions? At the end of the day, you’re doing it for you.
If you’re satisfied with the amount of information you have and decide to go through with it, congratulations! Move to step 2.
2. What happens during the procedure?
Every patient who is about to go through a surgery gets a little nerve wracked. In this case the anxiety is even more because you don’t know what to anticipate, you’re so eager to go flaunt your new look and you have made such a big investment. Undergoing a surgical procedure for the majority of Australians is a big financial decision. But if you want to forego the green tea and the leafy juice that you gobble every day without any significant changes, it’s no big price to pay.
A minor liposuction procedure doesn’t necessarily require an overnight stay, however you will require someone to drive you to the clinic or hospital.
The doctor will initially mark the area of extraction and then you will be given anaesthesia for the pain. More common procedures include pumping the area of treatment with fluids until the skin is fully stretched.
A small incision is then made around that area where the doctor inserts a hollow tube-like instrument. The tube is moved back and forth in such a way that the fluids that were pumped into that area plus the fat tissues come out through the tube and collected in a flask.
This bodily fluid being removed requires replacement. This is usually done intravenously.
Once the anaesthesia wears out, you begin to feel pain. You shouldn’t worry much about that; the pain shouldn’t be too bad – and usually you will just feel bruised. However, if the pain increases you should seek immediate medical attention to rule out any infection or other concerns.
There you have it! You should now be good to go.
3. What to expect post-surgery
Not too fast. That slim dress you bought, it’s going to have to wait, unfortunately. But you’re almost there. The tail is harder to chew but on a brighter note, it doesn’t take too long.
Depending on the severity of the surgery, one might have to sleep overnight but in most cases the patient is discharged a few hours after surgery.
The physician is required to give you instructions on what medications to take, the amount of activity that your body can handle, what side effects to anticipate among others.
Most importantly to note, full results can take up to three months to show so you will require to be patient.
You might encounter swelling but in time it subsides. The doctor should instruct you to wear a compression garment to help with the process.
Liposuction only leaves a small scar where the incision was made. Sometimes fluids may leak out through that and in some instances the doctor might insert a draining tube.
4. All done
Liposuction results are usually extremely satisfactory and you get to flaunt your contoured, reshaped body. To keep up with these results, proper dietary habits and regular exercise is highly recommended.
