About Dr Justin Perron – Brisbane Plastic Surgeon

Dr Justin Perron is a Canadian-born cosmetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgeon who obtained his extensive training in Australia. He studied Biochemistry and Chemistry at the University of Calgary in Canada before heading to Australia for his medical training back in 2000. He completed his Bachelor of Surgery and Medicine at Flinders University in Adelaide, and then moved to Queensland in 2003. He went on to obtain his Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Perron also presents at surgical conferences, and has published articles in several medical journals. He keeps himself up-to-date with the latest trends in this diverse and broad field. So, he’s definitely at the forefront of the field. It’s not just social media that has made him popular – he’s obviously good at what he does.

Dr Perron has been around plastic surgery his whole life. With his father being a plastic surgeon, Justin was hanging around operating rooms, emergency and patients from a young age, and he says this gave him a sense of what he was getting into when he followed in his father’s footsteps.

Dr Perron has become a bit of a celebrity on Facebook and other social media forums as a highly sought-after and often referred to plastic surgeon. While he is rather attractive, his popularity is mostly triggered by his many happy patients. It is true that unsatisfied customers are much more likely to spread words of dissatisfaction in a public forum, in particular social media; however in Dr Perron’s case his rising number of happy patients has greatly contributed to his increasing popularity. We take a closer look at Word of Mouth Advertising and the power of social media.

Why Patients Love Dr Perron

Dr Perron is vocal about the friendship that he develops with his patients, as well as the satisfaction he feels when their lives greatly improve after the procedure. He has a reputation for being professional, approachable, and highly-qualified. His patients can attest to the care he gives, including the follow-ups and support post-surgery. For him, surgery does not end after the operation as he likes to personally ensure that all his patients recover well.

He is always open to answering questions from patients at any point during the recovery stage. Patients see him again after a few weeks and months to make sure that things have gone as planned. Dr Perron believes nobody deserves to feel abandoned or unsupported throughout the surgical journey. Besides the great results that he gives his patients, his approach means his patients having nothing but good things to say. And this is doing wonders for his advertising, especially with all the Facebook Groups and social media sharing that society indulges in today. We already love Dr Perron and his staff at his clinic in Brisbane.

An Interview with Dr Perron

Justin says, “I enjoyed the exposure, and the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) mentoring that was a part of my upbringing.”

Born in Saskatoon Canada, Justin moved to Australia in 2000 to pursue his medical training in Adelaide before moving to Queensland in 2003, although he’s spent time studying and training all over Australia. “I’ve spent many years of study and training before completing my Australian Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). I’ve worked throughout Queensland, from Townsville to Brisbane, Redcliffe, Caboolture, and Gold Coast. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training has taken me from the South East of Queensland to Perth in Western Australia.”

Some aspects of plastic surgery can’t be taught

Justin says that while studying medicine it became apparent that there were aspects of plastic surgery that couldn’t be taught, such as the creative or artistic viewpoints of the specialty. He says, “With time and maturity, these areas could be developed. I became a plastic surgeon because I enjoy the breadth, and depth of the specialty. It can involve repairing hand injuries, reconstructing breasts, fixing a congenital birth defect in a child, treating a burn, and the aesthetic aspects of each. Its an incredibly creative and innovative specialty which continues to expand. Every day is different, challenging, and rewarding.”

Rewarding work and challenges

Justin says that of all the aspects of plastic surgery, there are a few areas he really enjoys working on. He expands, “Various aspects of breast surgery are challenging and rewarding. From reconstruction, reduction, augments, and mastopexy, they each have their own challenges and limitations. Patients are always grateful for obtaining a natural breast shape.

“Body contouring surgery is a very rewarding area for patients. This includes abdominoplasty, brachioplasty, liposuction and thigh lifts. Contouring the body after massive weight loss can have profoundly positive effects on the patients who are treated. Some of the happiest patients I’ve treated are body contour patients. Ear surgery, such as otoplasty, is another area of interest. I enjoy the artistic aspect, and the challenges of creating a beautifully shaped ear.”

Justin says the most rewarding part of his job though is the relationships he develops with his patients and being able to impact in their life in a positive way.

The Importance of Researching Your Surgeon

He agrees with us here at the Hub on the importance of research if you are looking to undergo cosmetic surgery. “Research what you want, and have clear goals in your mind. You should be able to ‘own’ your operation; you know what you want, you have the surgeon you are happy with, and know everything about the recovery, including risks and complications. It shouldn’t be a frightening or unknown process, but one you do together with your surgeon. Never feel pressured, or uncomfortable with your decisions to have the operation. If you ever feel like something doesn’t seem right, let your surgeon know.”

Justin has some great advice for young people in today’s “media perfect world”. “Surgery is not for everyone, and that includes people under 18 years of age. As people age, their bodies change and what might seem like a significant problem at a young age, might not seem like such a huge difference in a few years time. Our brains haven’t fully matured until the late 20’s, and until that time, impulsiveness and improper decision making can happen. This is reflected in the statistics of suicide, being higher in adolescence and higher risk taking decisions performed in this age group.”

Justin has a great reputation as being an extremely approachable, professional and capable surgeon and one of the reasons is that he provides great follow up and support for his patients after surgery. He stresses, “Surgery doesn’t finish after the operation is done. It continues into recovery, follow-up the next day to ensure pain is under control, nausea is under control, and that everything else is happening as expected. There are always questions, and I’m happy to answer them at any point in the recovery process. Seeing patients at 2 weeks, 3 months and again after that to make sure its all going according to plan. No one should feel unsupported or ‘abandoned’ at any stage in their operative journey.”

Dr Justin Perron is by all accounts a surgeon worth considering for your plastic or cosmetic surgery procedures. We’d like to thank Dr Justin Perron for chatting to us!
