PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGEON

Sophie completed her MBBS with Honours at the University of Tasmania in 2001. After graduating, she undertook further study and training in General Surgery, followed by specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Training in Melbourne, under the auspices of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, (2007-2010). She was admitted as a Fellow of this College as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in 2011.

Sophie held appointments at both St Vincent’s Hospital and The Alfred during 2011-2012. Here she was involved primarily in microsurgical head & neck, sarcoma and breast cancer reconstructions as well as general plastics and hand trauma. She then travelled overseas to Canada to undertake a Clinical Fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery. Here she honed her skills in facial fracture management, rhinoplasty and facial aesthetics as well as adult cleft lip and palate surgery and correction of post traumatic and congenital craniofacial deformity.

Since her return, Sophie has again been appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at St Vincent’s Hospital and she has private consulting rooms at St Vincent’s Private East Melbourne (formerly the Mercy Hospital) and at Wyndham Private Consulting Rooms.

As well as her membership with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Sophie is a member of both the Royal Australasian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Sophie has undertaken research in the areas of burns, limb replantation post-trauma, genital reconstructive surgery, and the role of the private sector in plastic surgery training. Research during her overseas Fellowship involved the development of a patient reported outcomes measure for cleft lip and palate patients which she presented internationally.

As a plastic surgeon, Sophie’s key interests are face, breast, body, skin and general reconstructive surgery. It is Sophie’s personalised care and foremost concern for patient safety and comfort that characterises her basic approach to the specialty. With this as the cornerstone of her practice, she looks forward to servicing the Melbourne area.
