PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGEON
Dr Roger Woods (MBBS FRACS) is an accomplished Plastic surgeon with an excellent record of care for children and adults in need of cosmetic or reconstructive surgery.
Dr Woods completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide. He undertook additional training in General surgery in South Australia and the United Kingdom, prior to undertaking Plastic surgery training. Dr Woods was awarded a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
He was granted the Marjorie Hooper scholarship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008 to support additional training overseas. He undertook this in the academic and historic city of Oxford in the United Kingdom. During his time in Oxford he taught anatomy and surgery to students of Oxford University and Magdalen College, which his grandfather had attended as a Rhodes scholar.
After two years of additional specialisation at world-leading units in Adelaide and Oxford, Dr Woods was awarded formal recognition as a Craniomaxillofacial surgeon, endorsed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian and New Zealand Craniofacial Society. He has a current Associate membership of the Australian and New Zealand Craniofacial Society. This confirms his additional competency in surgery to the face involving both the bony skeleton and overlying soft tissues, for optimal overall results.
Dr Woods worked as a Consultant Plastic surgeon in Oxford, United Kingdom, with additional interest areas in microsurgery and complex reconstruction after traumatic wounds or excision for cancer. He also spent time visiting prominent Cosmetic surgeons in London, England, to further his education in this field.
Having returned to his home of Adelaide, Dr Roger Woods works in public and private practice. He has Visiting Specialist roles in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide and the Riverland Regional Health Service in Berri, South Australia. He forms a valuable part of the reconstructive surgical team in the management of complicated skin malignancy, melanoma, sarcoma and head and neck malignancy. Dr Woods is the chief plastic surgeon in the South Australian Sarcoma team and is the lead author of the national guidelines for Reconstructive surgery in the management of Sarcoma.
In private practice, Dr Woods focuses on management of skin malignancy and reconstructive challenges following trauma or cancer resection. He believes in providing patients ample time to make an informed decision about their care and always aims to provide the best treatment available. He also offers cosmetic surgery with minimally invasive and short scar techniques where possible to enhance the appearance of the face, breast and body.
Dr Woods is also heavily involved in training the next generation of doctors and plastic surgeons. He has an Honorary Senior Lecturer position with the University of Adelaide in recognition of his ongoing work in the education of medical students. He is also actively involved in research and regularly attends conferences and meetings in Asia, Europe, and North America to keep up to date in the ever-evolving fields of plastic surgery and craniomaxillofacial surgery.
Dr Woods also undertakes regular volunteer work with Operation Smile and OSSAA, providing free plastic surgical care to our South East Asian neighbours in need.
