Following completion of Plastic Surgery Specialist Training 2005, Dr Markus Nikitins undertook further post-fellowship training in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. He had already established an interest in Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery, gaining further experience in the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. The two-year post-fellowship Programme involved training with the Queensland Craniofacial Service at Mater Children’s, Royal Children’s and Royal Brisbane Hospitals, with additional experience at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Australian Craniofacial Unit.
During his training, he has undertaken research into various aspects of Plastic and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery with several presentations at State and National Annual Scientific Meetings. Elements of his research have gained publication in peer-reviewed surgery journals.
He has been actively involved in teaching programmes interstate and locally with a special interest involving Craniofacial Plastic Surgery. He is also a member of the Overseas Specialist Surgical Association of Australia (OSSAA) and was a team member in Flores, Indonesia from March 2007 to April 2010.
