Benefits of Laser Liposuction
People who want to lose a few inches here and there may be interested in the benefits of using laser liposuction. This is one of the newer liposuction techniques for plastic surgery. This technique works a little differently from the other kinds, and while not necessarily hard to find, is one that not all plastic surgery offices provide.
What is different about Laser Liposuction?
Traditional services for this kind of plastic surgery used small incisions in the skin and a cannula to remove fat. The cannula is somewhat like a metal drinking straw in that it assists in the fat removal from the person’s body. These items were fairly basic in design when surgeons first began to use this procedure but have changed over time and may now have added features.
The newer lipo techniques use the laser to liquefy fat cells and then use a special cannula to remove them. The traditional methods do not liquefy the fat but instead remove it directly. Patients and doctors may have different ideas about which process works the best and it can vary from person to person.
Some doctors are resistant to using this procedure for several reasons. One is that traditional lipo machines cannot be used for this method. It takes a special machine that uses a laser. This costs a considerable amount of money to purchase the machine but it also takes additional training to use the machine. While some doctors are on board with this technique, others are satisfied with traditional methods.
What to expect and look for with Laser Lipo
Like all plastic surgery, the results can vary because of several factors. This method is said to give better results in that the skin stays tighter in most cases. While that can be true, it can also have to do with the patient, the kind of skin that they have, their overall health and genetics as well as the skill of the doctor. Some people will get a great result while others will fall short of their expectations.
The skill of the operator does have a bearing on the results, because a potential risk with this kind of procedure is scarring and burns. This is common to all laser procedures such as those for acne scar removal. This does not happen to everyone but it is something to consider. An individual may also have skin that is more prone to scarring, which can have an impact on the result.
