An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, reshapes the underside portion of the upper arm from the underarm region to the elbow. An arm lift essentially removes excess skin from the undersides of the arms, to create a shapelier and more contoured silhouette. Surgical correction may also address functional concerns with clothing or rashes.

It is ideal for those that are maintaining a healthy weight, but have stubborn excess skin or laxity in the upper arm area that does not respond to diet or exercise.

Brachioplasty surgery with Dr Matthew Peters is performed under general anaesthetic in an accredited medical facility.

Before Your Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) Surgery

Prior to your procedure, Dr Peters always likes to see his patients stay as healthy as possible. This includes a healthy diet and exercise, as well as getting enough sleep. These steps contribute to maintaining a strong immune system, which will help you on your recovery journey.

We also suggest that you prepare an area in your home for you to recover comfortably, with pillows, ice packs, and entertainment. You may also choose to pre-prepare some healthy meals, purchase some comfortable, loose clothing and fill any needed prescriptions before your procedure date.

After Your Brachioplasty Procedure

Post brachioplasty, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and also have someone stay with you for a couple of days after.

Dressings will be applied to your incisions, with your arms also wrapped in compression garments. These garments will help to alleviate any swelling and support your healing process. To help drain any excess fluid, you may have drains in place which will be managed by nursing staff.

Tolerable pain, swelling, bruising, and numbness are absolutely normal after a brachioplasty. These symptoms will subside over the following weeks. Dr Peters and his team will make every effort to make your post operative journey as comfortable as possible and following their advice is the best way to prepare for an ideal recovery.

During the first few weeks after the surgery, Dr Matthew Peters advises that you avoid any heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, and swimming.

It is important to know that all surgical procedures result in some scarring. However, there are steps that can be taken to ensure that any visible scars are kept to a minimum. These include keeping your incision site protected from the sun, using tape, and regularly massaging the area once it is healed, in addition to following all post operative instructions provided to you.
