The big question seems to be do you need to replace your implants after 10 years? With all the media hype and discussion over the last few years about whether or not you should or need to get your implants checked or replaced after a certain time, and after listening to a podcast on Transforming Bodies through Plastic Surgery Hub that you should regularly get your implants checked, I decided to book in to Brisbane Plastic Surgery. I had my breast augmentation surgery done over 11 years ago and always wondered if I should or needed to get them redone.
I was a little nervous but went to my appointment and Keren, the super friendly nurse at Brisbane Plastic Surgery, sat me down and asked me a bunch of questions. She then did a check of my breasts with her hands. I also had an X-Ray scan done to check if there was any leakage or rupture. Even though I was obviously a little worried that I would get some scary news back, I felt good that I was taking the step to get them checked, and Keren made me feel relaxed and comfortable the whole way through.
Keren gave me the great news that everything was fine. She also told me that unless there is an issue you don’t need to get them redone at all, even after 10 or more years, but she did bring to my attention that I was supposed to be getting them checked each year.
It gave me peace of mind that everything is fine with my boobs! I will be back to get it done in 12 months. I’ll definitely be going back to Keren and the team at Brisbane Plastic Surgery. They were all awesome and made the whole process really easy. I was also lucky enough to have Trish from Plastic Surgery Hub come with me for moral support.
Something else I want to mention is that Keren and Brisbane Plastic Surgery have an initiative called BRAS (Breast Implant Review After Surgery). So they do FREE checks. I didn’t have to pay a cent for my breast check. I would say get it done – it gives you peace of mind.
So, to answer that big question – do you need to replace your implants after 10 years? The answer is no, not if there’s no problems!
